McCormick Foundation
McCormick Foundation was established in 1955 to enhance the effectiveness of American education, improve the social and economic environment, encourage a free and responsible discussion of issues affecting the nation, and stimulate responsible citizenship.
Since 1993, the education program of the McCormick Foundation has committed more than $48 million in resources and expertise to improve the quality of early childhood education in the metropolitan Chicago area. In the past 11 years, the program’s support has focused on quality enhancement activities such as accreditation, public awareness, public policy, and professional development.
Dolores Kohl Education Foundation
With the goal of enhancing children’s learning through the support of exemplary teaching, the Dolores Kohl Education Foundation was launched in 1972 as a private international operating foundation. Having pioneered the Teacher Center concept in Illinois, the Foundation later launched the Kohl Children’s Museum, a model for early learning through creative, interactive exhibits.
For a decade, the Kohl International Teaching Awards have honored local and national elementary and high school teachers as well as media and lifetime contributors to the field of education. A catalyst for excellence in education from preschool to adult learners, the Foundation continues to operate innovative education and arts programs in the United States and abroad.
Kohl McCormick Academy of Outstanding Educators
The award-winning teachers of the Kohl McCormick Awards are an integral part of the StoryBus program - presenting at the institutes, mentoring teachers at participating schools, and developing the outstanding curriculum materials, which we provide to assist in literacy efforts.
In 1994, The Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards was formed to honor outstanding early childhood educators from the Chicago metropolitan area. It was the first teacher recognition program exclusively designed to acknowledge the talents and contributions of early childhood educators working with children from birth to age eight. They teach in child care centers, Head Start and State Prekindergarten programs, preschools, licensed family child care homes, and elementary schools. This recognition program has become a national model.
The goal of the Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards program is to increase public awareness as to the critical need for high quality early childhood education by honoring outstanding educators working in excellent childcare facilities and schools.
