Mission of the Kohl McCormick StoryBus

The mission of the Kohl McCormick StoryBus program is to build enthusiasm for literature and learning to read among young children. Using stories, drama, movement, art creation, and discovery play, StoryBus teaches emergent literacy skills to children by encouraging the development of phonemic awareness, communication, expression, sequencing, listening, speaking, and writing.

The program also provides a wealth of curriculum ideas for teachers and encourages partnering with parents in the learning process by providing materials for parents to use at home as well as supporting the development of parent workshops. Parents are also welcome to visit the StoryBus on the weekend, with their children.

The Kohl McCormick StoryBus is a supplemental program encouraging children, teachers, and parents to climb aboard to begin a journey into literacy that will last a lifetime.
