Internships

There are many opportunities for college students to be a part of the StoryBus and the Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards through work-study or internship positions.


Kohl McCormick StoryBus

The StoryBus is a literacy mobile filled with hands-on exhibits to transport young children into a world that makes literature come alive. Working on this project provides experience in administration, communications, and working with children.


Possible responsibilities include:

  • Working with StoryBus educators on StoryBus visits throughout communities in Chicago.
  • Conducting assessments on the StoryBus curriculum with teachers and children.
  • Assisting the StoryBus Project Manager in scheduling and contracts.
  • Assisting the StoryBus public relations director in the writing of press releases and media calls.


Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards

The Kohl McCormick Awards have honored outstanding early childhood educators in since 1994. The program, which begins in September and culminates in a spring awards luncheon, provides an excellent opportunity for students to be involved in event planning, administration, and public relations - and to work with exemplary teachers.


Possible responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the implementation of a prestigious early childhood teaching awards program by sending out nomination materials, speaking with teachers who have been nominated, etc.
  • Assist the public relations director in the writing of press releases and media calls.
  • Assist the staff in the event planning for our spring awards ceremony.


Jobs

The StoryBus offers a limited number of part-time or full-time positions for those with experience in early childhood education. Due to the diverse linguistic backgrounds of the students served, bilingual educators are especially needed.
